Handmade Christmas Decor

DSC02063

I made these trees out of foam floral cones and fabric. I was inspired when I saw one similar to the tall, leopard print one in a local Christmas store for $80! Yes, $80! Can you believe it? All three cost me around $30.

I also made this wreath. I got 50 ornaments for $10 at Hobby Lobby and used a wire hanger.

I was also inspired by this wreath at Ballard Designs. I again used two wire hangers to make my “S", then bought garland at the Dollar Tree to wrap around it. I used some Christmas picks and ribbon I had on hand to make it stand out a little more since I used it on my ugly green front door.

My First Blog

This is my first blog. I've read blogs for years now, and have been a lurker, stalker, whatever they are called, this whole time. It started as a way to keep up with people from college, then most of them went private and I was too embarrased to admit that I had been reading their blog and they didn't know it! So then I discovered blogs about crafting, thrifting, and decorating, and became so inspired! So, this is my attempt to show a few original ideas of my own, my version of ideas I've found, and a way to finally connect with blogs that I love that I have been following for so long! Please be patient with me as I get this all set up and cute and organized. I look forward to becoming a blogger. It's something I've wanted to do for a while, but always talked myself out of it. Thanks for stopping by!

Goodwill Hunting

I heart Goodwill. I never knew the goodness that you could find at a Goodwill store until I moved to Texas. There is a really good Goodwill store right by my house and another one right by my office. I'm in heaven. I go in about once a week or so and could seriously spend about $50 on other people's junk. That amazes me and is just so funny to me. I love vintage stuff and love to give things a new life and a new purpose. I usually try to not spend that much, and I think that makes my husband happy.

This week I went on Tuesday to the one by my house and found some good stuff. Right before I was checing out I noticed that they were having a 50% off sale, on Wednesday. I was not willing to let my stuff go, and wait until the next day, seriously, it's a problem, so I paid full price for it all, which came out to about $25. Look at what I got.....

This gorgeous candlestick was $5.

This was $2. Not really sure what it is, but I thought it was pretty!

These were a $1 each and with a little spray paint could be used for so many things.

This shelf was $3. After a coat of spray paint and some new knobs, it will look so cute in my bathroom.

These tall, skinny Santa's were $4 each. I really didn't want to pay $8 for both. I would have rather waited until I could have gotten them for half off, but they were there last week and I fell in love with them. Since they were still there, and sitting by the front door, I knew it was meant to be. I don't know why, but I think they are just so cute!

And the reason my husband puts up with my love for Goodwill........

Because I bring him things like this ( a Darth Vader lamp.) I picked it up not knowing if he would like it or not. A little boy saw me with and started screaming, " I WANT THAT, I WANT THAT." I quickly turned to go down the next aisle, I didn't want a screaming child to guilt trip me into giving up my find. Plus, then I knew that if a 5 year old boy would like it, then my husband would love it! And he did.

Change of A Dress

I bought this dress at Marshall's for $5.00! How cute is that?! But the zipper was broken and it didn't fit. :(. My husband thought I was crazy for buying it, but I saw something else that I could do with it. I took the dress apart and made this......

I love it!

I'm going to use the rest of the material to add some shiny blue ruffles to an old black t-shirt.

Stay tuned for that!
